Sustainable Tourism - Eco-skiers
- Skiers and snowboarders should consider what transport to use and the environmental impact it has. This should include how to get to the airport if you are flying.
- The Eurostar to the Alps claims to be carbon neutral
- Ski Beat offers a carbon offset service with TICOS to help offset your emissions. Please do not opt out of this
- Reduce the amount of luggage that you take. It is easier and better for the environment to hire ski and snowboarding equipment in resort; it also avoids the charge for ski carriage
- Reduce the number of luggage labels used: on flights they serve no purpose as the airlines use their own bar-coded labels.
- Suggest that friends look at the new digital Ski Beat e-brochure rather than ask for a hard copy.
- While on holiday cut your home fuel bills: try to turn the heating down and do not leave electrical appliances even on stand by.
- While on your ski holiday try not to waste electricity and hot water in resort. Just reducing the heating one degree can have a significant affect.
- Do not leave chalet windows or doors open: you will use large amounts of fuel as well as directly heating the Alps and melting the snow.
- Respect the environment: please do not drop litter. If you do accidentally drop any litter from a chairlift, instead of going back for it you could simply pick up two other pieces: unfortunately there is plenty around.
